I adore videogame concept- and cover art. Digital paintings depicting new worlds, new rules and new ideas has always been captivating to me. As well as the artist’s abillity to show larger than life concepts with mastery over shapes, light, color and composition. A medium that isn’t real, but feels real.
I’ve always wanted to give this medium a shot and at the end of 2023 I realised that, with my skillset, I probably could. So I decided to study these techniques and start learning digital painting. For now focussing on the fundamentals and personal projects.
For the past year Ive been doing weekly reference studies to deepen my understanding and application of color theory. A skill I considered somewhat lacking in my past body of work. But also a skill I deem vital for various visual disciplines such as interface design and branding, not just painting. So far I’ve found that these exercises have given me a more natural understanding how colors interact. By building these fundamentals, I aim to create more visually cohesive and compelling designs across different mediums.
I will continue my practice, but also look at ways to incorporate this workflow into different creative endavours, such as interface design and animation. And as a bonus I just really enjoy doing it :)
